Our vision
The vision of the South Australian Alliance to End Homelessness (SAAEH) is to prevent, reduce, and end homelessness in South Australia.
Our mission
Our mission is to achieve our vision through local collaboration with a broad range of not-for-profit organisations, government agencies, private organisations, and service providers that have come together to lead the charge for ending homelessness in South Australia. By measuring the number and needs of everyone experiencing homelessness in as close to real-time as possible, the SAAEH drives system coordination, innovation, and advocacy, with the mission of ending homelessness by making it rare, brief, and a one-time occurrence.
Our shared goal
By the end of 2025, one community in South Australia will have achieved Functional Zero, and two communities will have achieved a subpopulation proof point.
Functional Zero
Functional Zero is a dynamic way of determining if a community has been able to make homelessness a rare, brief and a one-time occurrence. More information about Functional Zero can be found here.
Subpopulation proof point
A subpopulation proof point is reached when Functional Zero is achieved for a subset of a population experiencing homelessness in a community, such as First Nations people, or people chronically sleeping rough. When homelessness becomes a rare, brief and a one-time occurrence for people of a subpopulation, it is a demonstration — a point of proof — that ending homelessness is possible for all.
All that the SAAEH does, from our approach, to our collaborators and partners, points to our vision that homelessness is both preventable and solvable.
Our approach
We have worked with the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness in their development of the Advance to Zero Methodology, to help guide efforts to end homelessness in South Australia. The Advance to Zero (AtoZ) Campaign utilises a methodology that has been developed over many years by the various partners of the AAEH across Australia and is a blend of what is working from efforts around the world and what we’ve learned in Australia.
The SAAEH takes the highly collaborative collective impact approach — a structured form of collaboration whereby organisations and individuals from different sectors all work together on a common agenda for solving a specific problem. Collective impact is based on the understanding that existing approaches to creating change are too often ineffective for solving complex issues.
